Tuesday Clay

Notes from a weekly evening class: what I threw, what I glazed, what the kiln did.

Who writes here

Every Tuesday evening I spend three hours at a community pottery studio, mostly at the wheel, sometimes at the glaze table, occasionally staring into a kiln that has not cooled yet. I started as a complete beginner and I am now something like an intermediate beginner. At home there is a shelf in a small apartment hallway where the results go, including the ones that should not have survived.

This is a diary of the class, written on the way home or the morning after: what I made, what went wrong on the wheel, which glaze did what at which temperature, and what came out of the kiln a week later looking nothing like I expected. Measurements are in grams and centimeters, firings in Celsius, and opinions are my own.
